Core MoTeC Product Categories & Their Motorsport Applications

1. ECUs (Engine Control Units)

MoTeC ECUs are used to manage and control all aspects of an engine’s operation. These include fuel injection, ignition timing, boost control, throttle-by-wire, traction control, anti-lag systems, and gearbox actuation in advanced applications.

  • Custom Tuning & Calibration: Used by race engineers to fine-tune engine maps for different track conditions, fuel types, and weather.
  • Advanced Strategies: Supports features like launch control, pit lane speed limiters, knock control, and even adaptive systems that adjust during a race.
  • Examples: M1 Series (modular ECUs), M130, M150—offering real-time flexibility and firmware packages tailored for specific applications (e.g., GPR, GPRP for paddle-shift or powertrain control).
2. Data Loggers & Dash Loggers

MoTeC’s data acquisition systems allow for the real-time collection of sensor data across the vehicle. These systems can log hundreds of data channels—from engine RPM and throttle position to suspension travel and tire temps at up to 5000hz.

  • Performance Analysis: Engineers and drivers review logged data to identify performance gains, improve driver behavior, and detect issues before failure.
  • Post-Session Review: Data is typically downloaded after each session or streamed live to the pits for immediate feedback.
  • Dash Loggers: Combine display and logging in one unit. Fully customizable screens display key telemetry like lap times, shift lights, warnings, and even predictive lap timing.
  • Examples: C125, C127, C185 Dash Loggers – varying in size, logging rate, and display resolution.
3. Displays & Keypads

MoTeC offers customizable color LCD displays that provide the driver with vital real-time information. Integrated with warning lights, shift indicators, and even driver aids like lap delta comparisons, these displays are a core part of modern race dashboards.

  • Custom Layouts: Easily configurable with MoTeC software to show different layouts for qualifying, race, or pit strategy.
  • Driver Alerts: Visual and audible alerts for overheating, oil pressure loss, or other critical warnings.
4. Power Distribution Modules (PDMs)

MoTeC PDMs replace traditional fuses and relays, allowing full digital control of the car’s electrical systems. They can be programmed to manage the flow of power to fuel pumps, fans, lights, data systems, etc.

  • Efficiency & Weight Saving: Removes the need for bulky wiring looms, improving reliability and reducing weight.
  • Smart Control: Conditional logic can shut off systems in emergencies or manage power priorities during electrical failure.
  • Examples: PDM15, PDM30 – named for the number of high-current outputs.
5. Telemetry Systems

MoTeC’s real-time telemetry solutions transmit live data from the car to the pit wall or team’s base. Engineers can monitor everything from engine health to tire pressures during the race.

  • Live Monitoring: Crucial for long-distance endurance races where proactive strategy adjustments and diagnostics are key.
  • Remote Diagnostics: Engineers can make real-time decisions, detect issues early, or guide the driver in emergency scenarios.
  • Application: Used in high-level motorsports like WEC, IMSA, Supercars, GT racing and rally raid events like Dakar.
